Tutorial on neuromorphic electronic circuits
We will give a brief historical overview of the field of neural and neuromorphic computing, and present the main advantages (and disadvantages) of analog VLSI circuit design. We will explain how very simple 1-, 2-, and 3-transistor neuromorphic circuits work, showing the analogies between the physics of subthreshold transistor operation and the bio-physics of neural cells. We'll describe the principles of operation of analog synapse and neural circuits and discuss the advantages of analog emulation versus digital simulation of neural processes.
